We’re looking for a full-time DevOps & Cloud Engineer to join our team.

About Webreality

Webreality is a busy, growing digital agency built on the idea of human-powered technology. We combine creativity, technical expertise and genuine partnership to help our clients achieve lasting results.

We’re trusted by more than 175 organisations across Jersey and the UK to deliver websites, digital marketing campaigns, software projects and ongoing strategic support. Our clients rely on us not just to deliver, but to think with them. To speak their language, understand their goals, and find solutions that work.

The role

The DevOps & Cloud Engineer plays a central mid-level role in ensuring that our software solutions and websites are delivered reliably and securely, and maintained and supported for the long-term. Working closely with our Technology leadership, you’ll be responsible for designing, automating and maintaining the cloud and deployment pipelines that underpin all our client solutions, websites and products.

You’ll combine deep AWS and automation knowledge with a proactive drive to enhance the speed, security and cost-efficiency of our delivery processes, providing direct, long-term value to our clients and our business.

This role offers significant scope for professional growth and is ideal for an ambitious individual looking to step up into future technical leadership.

What you’ll do

The DevOps & Cloud Engineer role revolves around six primary areas of responsibility:

1. DevOps and CI/CD pipeline management

  • Pipeline: Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for building, testing and deployment across all environments (Sandbox, Dev, Staging, Production).

  • Automation: Where appropriate, automate the build and release process for both websites and cloud-based software applications.

  • Source control and toolchain: Enforce best practices, manage pull request policies and maintain the integrated DevOps toolchain.

  • Dependency management: Manage dependencies, identifying, tracking and managing links between software components, tasks, people, and systems.

2. Cloud infrastructure management

  • Infrastructure as code (IaC): Implement and manage our cloud infrastructure resources reliably and repeatedly using IaC tools.

  • Deployment strategy: Implement cloud-native deployment strategies to minimise downtime and risk.

  • Cost and performance optimisation: Monitor cloud infrastructure usage and costs, identifying opportunities to optimise our resources and create efficiencies.

  • Cloud services support: Provide hands-on management of our key cloud and infrastructure services.

3. Security and compliance

  • Security automation: Integrate security scanning tools and practices into the pipeline to identify vulnerabilities early in the development process.

  • Best practices: Implement and enforce security best practices in line with standard guidelines for web applications.

  • Access control: Manage and audit Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies to enforce the principle of least privilege.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Infrastructure & Security to embed security throughout the development lifecycle and business.

4. Database management and operations

  • SQL Server: Write, review, and optimise database deployment scripts and migration plans.

  • Database reliability: Manage database maintenance tasks, backups, replication and disaster recovery strategies.

5. Collaboration and planning

  • Strategy input: Work with the Technology and Support leadership to define future-state architecture, adoption of new tools and best practices.

  • Team mentoring: Lead the evolution of our DevOps culture, mentoring other developers on CI/CD, cloud best practices and troubleshooting techniques.

6. Client support and incident response

  • Support: Provide front-line technical support for clients, when required. Diagnose, prioritise, and help to resolve technical issues and bugs reported by clients.

  • Incident response: Be a key contributor during incidents, quickly diagnosing issues that span development code, deployment pipelines or cloud infrastructure.

Your experience

We’re looking for someone with commercial-level competence and experience with as many as possible of the following:

Essential

  • Amazon Web Services: Core services (EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFront)

  • Windows and IIS management: Management and configuration of Windows server, an understanding of Windows networking and the ability to configure and manage IIS.

  • Infrastructure as code (IaC)

  • CI/CD: Strong experience designing and building pipelines, ideally using Jenkins or a comparable alternative

  • Development environments: Experience automating the build and deployment of C#/.NET and, ideally, Umbraco applications.

  • Scripting: Proficiency in command-line interfaces like Bash or PowerShell.

  • Database: Experience with SQL Server performance tuning and maintenance.

  • Source control: Experience with Git and enforcing Git Flow branching.

  • Security: Knowledge of SAST/DAST tools and integrating security scanning into CI/CD, and security best practices (OWASP, authentication).

Bonus

  • Serverless: Experience with AWS Lambda and Serverless Application Model.

  • Advanced Networking: Deep knowledge of AWS networking components.

  • Containerisation: Using Kubernetes and / or Docker.

What we’re looking for

  • The ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks based on infrastructure stability, project deployment schedules and security requirements.

  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex infrastructure decisions and concepts clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A proactive, security-conscious and solution-oriented mindset, with a proven ability to understand and mitigate technical issues, and quickly resolve high-severity incidents.

  • A strong interest in learning new cloud services and automation best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and mentor team members, highlighting the potential for future technical leadership.

This is a mid-level role with significant responsibility; the successful candidate is likely to have at least five years of commercial experience, and will most likely hold relevant professional certifications.
